Group A - Any learner up to and including 13 years at the time of the competition may participate. - The entry fee is R150 and is not refundable.
Group B (only candidates from music development projects) - The age limit for participation is 14 years at the time of the competition. - No entry fees are payable.
The competition takes place in four categories: Piano, Strings, Woodwind, Brass and Other Instruments (Classical Guitar, Recorder and Percussion)

Atterbury Klavierkompetisie - Pretoria

17 - 21 Oktober 2016
The official opening of the competition will take place on Monday 17 October 2016 at 18h30. During this ceremony, the overall winner of the 2015 competition, Leo Gevisser, will deliver a short performance. After his performance, all the participants will be introduced to the audience, and the official group photo will be taken on stage. Entry to the opening is free to all members of the public, and seats do not need to be reserved beforehand.
The final gala evening will be on Friday 21 October 2016 at 19h00.
During this event the 3 finalists from each of the age categories will perform 2 works each. There will be a short break during which the 3 adjudicators will discuss their final decisions, followed by the announcement of all the winners. Tickets for the gala evening will be available from Computicket.

Orff Workshops with Gerard Van de Geer

The Orff Schulwerk Society of South Africa Gerard is an experienced Early Childhood and Primary Orff Schulwerk music educator and presenter. As past President of the Australian National Council of Orff Schulwerk (ANCOS) and the Tasmanian Orff Schulwerk Association (TOSA), Gerard has presented at National Conferences and Orff Accreditation Courses within Australia.
He has also presented at the Orff School in Traunwalchen, Bavaria, Orff Schulwerk Level Accreditation Courses in Australia and Taiwan, and workshops in South Africa and New Zealand.
Formerly a Lecturer at the University of Tasmania in their Masters Programme, Gerard’s research and field work have focused on students’ involvement with Marimbas. He has coordinated the annual Marimba Mania festival for the past 18 years. He currently conducts two secondary Marimba Ensembles, as well as an Adult group. Gerard always aims to present all participants with a successful repertoire of engaging musical experiences, suitable for a broad range of musical capabilities.

*For the workshops in Hillbrow we will be organising a carpooling system for participants, as there is secure but limited parking on the grounds of the Friedenskirche (Lutheran Church) where the music school is situated. The Park Station Gautrain Station is also a 5 minute drive away from the venue, and for those coming from Pretoria this would be an ideal option. We will arrange transport between the station and the venue.

South African National Youth Orchestra Foundation: This Summer Course 2016.

The musicians range in age from 13 to 25 years, play an orchestral or wind band instrument (for Summer Course) and have a minimum grade 7 music level.
Winter Course in Cape Town 11-17 July 2016: Symphony (Mahler Symphony No. 5)
This Winter Course 2016 is for two symphony orchestras.
Summer Course in Johannesburg 8-17 December 2016: Winds and Strings
This Summer Course 2016 is for the National Youth Wind Orchestra and the National Youth String Orchestra.

Music School of the Future Conference - Grahamstown

Kingswood College Music School in Grahamstown will be hosting a Music School of the Future Conference in August 2016. This conference will include all schools in Southern Africa.
The programme will include two concerts, a range of lectures/workshops as well as a session for visionary music teachers by Ed Sarath, University of Michigan, USA.

KZN National Youth Concerto Festival

As part of its 2016 World Symphony Series, the KZN Philharmonic presents the annual NATIONAL YOUTH CONCERTO FESTIVAL on THURSDAY, 29 September 2016 under the baton of conductor Lykele Temmingh.
The Festival gives advanced music students the opportunity to rehearse and perform with a professional orchestra, thereby opening doors to a professional career.

The National Eisteddfod Academy is calling for entries for the 2016 eisteddfod season of the National Eisteddfod of South Africa™
The final deadline for online entries in most regions is July 30 while hard copy entries (subject to a higher entry fee) will be accepted until July 10.
